ItaliaspeedTV – Alfa Romeo Giulietta Testing (II) Extreme Heat & Dust in South Africa

With its world première in Geneva now just days away Alfa Romeo presents a video of the new Giulietta undergoing extreme summer weather testing in South Africa. The new car, styled in-house by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, will feature six engines, three petrol and three MultiJet turbodiesels, driving through manual and dual-dry-clutch transmissions. The petrol engine range will kick off with a 120bhp 1.4 Turbo, putting out 147g/km of CO2 emissions. Currently found in the Alfa MiTo, this unit will be offered alongside the new 170bhp 1.4 MultiAir Turbo (137g/km CO2), which made its production debut at last months Frankfurt IAA, also under the bonnet of the MiTo. Arriving sometime later, the range-topping petrol unit will be the new 1750 direct-injection turbo which arrived earlier this year on the Alfa 159, 159 Sportwagon, Brera and Spider in 200bhp form. In the Milano, it will be tuned to offer up 235bhp and 179g/km of CO2. All three versions will come as standard with manual gearboxes, while the 1.4 MultiAir Turbo will also see the brand-new C635 DDCT (dual-dry-clutch transmission) offered as an option. These petrol engines will be complimented by three turbodiesels, opening with a 105bhp 1.6-litre MultiJet, which will put out only 114 g/km of CO2. Also available at launch will be the 2.0 MultiJet, developing 170bhp and 128g/km of CO2. A lower-powered version of this engine, developing 140bhp and 124g/km of CO2, will be available after launch. As the second-best-selling car in the US, Honda’s Accord promises to be one of the most significant introductions of the 2008 model year. In typical Honda style, the automaker is letting the product do the talking, foregoing a formal auto show introduction before the Accord hits dealerships in September. Honda’s best-selling model gets an extensive redesign that includes all-new styling inside and out, a spacious rear seat for the sedan, more standard safety features and more-powerful engines, including an optional V-6 with advanced fuel-saving technology. The finished product is a sport-oriented car that is better than its predecessor — a model that was already near the top of its segment. It’s not without some weaknesses, to be sure, but overall, the positive attributes far outweigh the negative ones. Exterior & Styling Offered in sedan and coupe body styles, the two Accord styles are now more distinct than ever; they share no body panels or glass. The coupe has a chiseled look that’s highlighted in front by a narrow mesh grille and bulging front fenders. Both have a more upright front end than the previous-generation Accord, which featured a pointy nose. The sedan, meanwhile, is a bit anonymous from certain angles. It’s as assertive as the coupe when viewed head-on, with a bit of previous-generation Nissan Altima in its grille and headlights, but it loses some presence as you move around to the sides and rear.
